Are Supplements the Answer to Good Health?

There has been much discussion over the years regarding the benefits of vitamin and mineral supplements. Proponents wanting us to believe that supplements can make up for our poor diets and correct vitamin/mineral deficiencies that lead to many diseases and functional disorders. The minerals and vitamins becoming just another "MAGIC REMEDY" that will somehow make up for a bad diet, protect us from sickness and bring good health in a pill?

The truth of the matter is supplements can be of help, but only as PART of an overall plan...a plan which must first include a good BALANCED DIET, including around 75% fruits, vegetables, grains, rice, beans; and 25 percent protein foods like meat, poultry, fish and low fat dairy. Keeping in mind that nothing is going to help you achieve better health in the long run, until you learn to eat the foods that will give you the minerals and vitamins in the first place!

After all, you really are what you eat...and an unbalanced, high fat, high processed, junk food diet is going to lead you to just that...A HIGH FAT, JUNK FOOD, GREASY, UNBALANCED BODY. And taking vitamins and minerals for the short term solution is not going to make up for your constant indulgences in the long term. So if you wish to get the benefits of mineral/vitamin supplements YOU MUST EAT WELL IN THE FIRST PLACE...then the supplements can be of help; assuming you know which vitamins and minerals would benefit your particular health and deficiencies situation (WHICH THE pH EXAM CAN ALSO HELP GUIDE YOU TO).

Because you can't make up for your deficiencies with a pill, medicine, manipulation or supplements UNLESS YOU EAT A GOOD DIET, despite all the heroic efforts you are capable of trying. Just like you can't run an automobile on reclaimed sludge by adding a quart of premium here and there.

The fact is, the fruits, vegetables, grains, rice, beans and protein foods (like meat and dairy) are the best sources for vitamins and minerals. They come in nature's own packaging, perfectly in balance and suitable for our biological needs...and there is no easy way, quick fix pill, or exercise that can replace them.

Eat them everyday and you can be your own doctor, supplying yourself with the building blocks of life, disease fighters, and basic elements of the immune system that will keep it functioning efficiently. Remember this...we don't usually get disease from something we caught...but WE MAKE OURSELVES SICK DAY BY DAY as we become more and more deficient, unbalanced and laden with toxins.
